General Chairman, Indonesia's Nahdlatul Ulama

Yahya Cholil Staquf

General Chairman of Indonesia's Nahdlatul Ulama, the world's largest Muslim organization with over 100 million followers and 28,000 Islamic boarding schools. He comes from a respected lineage of Javanese ulama and is a distinguished theologian. As a co-founder of the global Humanitarian Islam movement, he aims to reinterpret outdated religious beliefs that promote hatred and violence, and instead emphasize universal love and compassion. Mr. Staquf is involved with Bayt ar-Rahmah and the Center for Shared Civilizational Values, both affiliated with Nahdlatul Ulama. He founded and led the G20 Religion Forum (R20), which seeks to utilize religion as a source of solutions in the 21st century. In recognition of their peace efforts, the Vatican, al-Azhar University, and the Government of Abu Dhabi awarded Mr. Staquf and Nahdlatul Ulama the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity. He is consistently ranked among the 20 most influential Muslims by The Muslim 500.
