Shawki Allam, the 19th and current Grand Mufti of Egypt since 2013, is a highly respected cleric in the Sunni Muslim world. Born in Beheira, he earned his PhD in Islamic Jurisprudence from Al-Azhar University. As the Grand Mufti, he is the primary source of religious authority and issues fatwas through his office, the Dar al Ifta. He presides over the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, coordinating over 100 global Fatwa authorities. A prolific writer, Allam has penned over 50 books on Islamic Law. Recognized for his efforts in promoting interfaith understanding and combating violent extremism, he has received numerous accolades, including Pakistan’s highest civil award. He is a frequent contributor to leading newspapers and a regular guest on international TV networks.
